Instructor Bio

Encouraged by her brothers who started a short term before her, Leah Terpstra started training in 2014 at the age of 7. Right from the start her love of the art became apparent. Her natural talent combined with the love of learning has allowed her to develop into an amazing example for any martial artist. Whether she is working with other students, instructors, or just interacting with the families who are watching their loved ones train, any interaction with Ms. Terpstra is exceptional and she makes everyone feel like they are a part of our Kenpo family.

In 2017 Ms. Terpstra was promoted to 1st Degree Junior Black Belt at the age of 9. She continued to work and train diligently earning her 4th Degree Junior Black Belt by the age of 12.

In 2018 Ms. Terpstra began participation in the Leadership program and assisting instructors in classes.

In 2021 Ms. Terpstra transitioned her studies from the Junior Kenpo program to the Senior Kenpo program and has continued to excel.  Along with this transition, she also shifted from the Leadership program to the Instructor Training Program and is now a Class Assistant Instructor. Recognizing her skill and control level, she was invited to advanced sparring classes. In those classes Leah continues to learn and excel at boxing, kickboxing, and even learn about Jiu-jitsu and MMA. She also gets to work with amazing teachers and martial artists. This has helped her to develop more effective form, strength, and target recognition.

The American Institute of Kenpo has had the privilege of witnessing this extraordinary young woman’s transformation to a formidable martial artist, and are proud to have her as an active part of our Kenpo family. We know that any student working with her will feel the same way.
