Instructor Bio

Josh Kalos started training Kenpo with the American Kenpo Karate Academy in 2000. In 2005 Mr. Kalos transitioned to the American Institute of Kenpo and continued his Kenpo training. Mr. Kalos is a natural martial artist and quickly grasps theories, concepts, and principles that are the bedrock of Kenpo.

With a decade of training under his belt, Mr. Kalos began teaching in 2010. He excelled in both his personal art and being a mentor to the countless students that trained with him. From 2013 to 2016 he was the go-to instructor for the Junior and Senior Kenpo classes at his school. In 2016 he received the AIK Instructor of the year award for his school, and in in 2017 he received the Black Belt of the Year award.

Recently, Mr. Kalos has shifted his training more towards kickboxing and does not train Kenpo as much as he used to, however he holds a 4th degree Kenpo black belt and a wealth of knowledge he still use to this day. He says that the American Institute of Kenpo has taught him the majority of his skill set, but he has augmented his training with boxing, Muay Thai, and grappling fundamentals in other schools.

Mr. Kalos can be found working with senior black belts on kickboxing fundamentals and strategies in the advanced sparring classes. His knowledge and experience make him a valuable and extremely challenging training partner for anyone looking for a beneficial sparring partner to work with.

In 2016 Mr. Kalos was hired as a full time Kenpo Karate teacher for a charter school as part of their Physical Education program. He teaches Kenpo and martial arts concepts at that school to this day.

In 2020 Mr. Kalos began coaching advanced sparring alongside Mr. Rose and Mr. Pilch, where they strive to help students apply their fundamentals in a tactical, effective way.

The American Institute of Kenpo is grateful for all the contributions Mr. Kalos makes to the organization.
